The beekeeper Joe has kept bees for over 50 years, since he was a boy. After being accepted by the Canadian High Commission in the UK; we landed in Canada on December 2, 2000. After 3 months of searching we finally found an acreage, in an area with a variation of crops, pasture land, and nature reserve land owned by Ducks Unlimited. This was where we would settle with our two daughters and begin building our buisness.
We Started off with four hives in May 2001 and gradually expanded, that's when we decided to start selling our honey at the local farmers market in 2002. Customers soon came to like our product. This was the start of Coal Lake Honey Farm.
Our Honey House was built in the spring of 2004. Since then we haven't looked back. We now operate approximately 230 hives, and sell our honey at 5 farmers markets in Edmonton and surrounding area. We increased our product base, and began exploring natural skin products. Our customer base continues to grow, as does our passion for producing a honest product.
Our honey is produced with the utmost care, in the most natural way possible. Throughout the year Joe monitors the hives closely ensuring they are healthy and well cared for.
We welcome visitors to the farm throughout the year. You can take a look around and purchase any of our products from the farm. Be sure to contact us first before coming to ensure we are not at markets or out at the bees!
